To make some of my tutorials and “How to” videos, I use free software called OBS. To edit most of my videos, I use a program called Vegas Pro 16. Vegas pro can work with just about any video file know to exist except FLV files! And can you guess what file format OBS puts out? Yes. FLV.
How to Convert flv video files to mp4
Every time I went to look for an easy and fast way to convert my flv files to a more popular mp4 files, everybody said to use a program called Handbrake. They were right, this is an amazing piece of free video converter program. But it also has some steps that can be a bit cumbersome. Turns out, I had the solution all along!
My favorite media player had the answer. The VLC Media player has a function to convert media files fast and simple (and its free).
Go to Media> convert/save > add your .flv file. Click “convert/save”
I chose “Video for Youtube HD” from the pull-down menu. I like to make sure everything is set, so I click the little wrench icon to check if everything is clicked that needs to be clicked. mp4/mov file. Video and Audio codecs are saved as well as “keep original audio/video track. Hit save then start and its done by the time you have closed out of the program. You now have an mp4 video file ready to upload, edit or whatever you need to use it for.
