The very first website I ever had built was in 1995. The first website I built went online in 1996. So in one way or another, I have had websites online for over twenty years! A long time. And through those years, I have had many different web hosting companies.
From big named ones like GoDaddy and HostGator to smaller ones who offered me the world then went bankrupt without warning! The last 15 years or so, I have had a majority of my websites hosted with DreamHost. In fact, I was probably a charter member. If not, at least one of the first years clients. I love them for many reasons and I keep my smaller niche websites hosted there.
- GoDaddy: the modern, real-life version of the movie Glengarry Glen Ross ( the feeling you’re dealing with a backroom phone sales company that happens to sell web hosting services)
- HostGator: One of the largest hosting companies. They are cheap, but you pay for it with lack of service and support
- DreamHost: Friendly, Affordable, great support. Perfect for small, niche and growing websites
But my main website, The Vegas Tourist, started to really grow about 18 months ago and I was reaching the limits with bandwidth on DreamHost. Hitting their cap for resources per account and getting the emails asking me to do something about it. I looked at their Virtual Private Servers (VPS) and did not like the reviews on them or the pricing structure. So I went looking elsewhere. Most of the internet and e-commerce people that I know and respect recommended SiteGround. So I looked at them, liked what I saw and bought a one-year subscription to try them out.
Why I Love SiteGround!
So here I am paying my second year of web hosting and no longer getting that great introductory rate all web hosting companies lure you in with and not having a problem paying the new rate because of what they do for my websites and for me. With Web Hosting, you really do get what you are paying for!
With their free site transfer, my site was not down or disrupted while it was moved from DreamHost to SiteGround. Their support was and always has been top-notch and was there to answer any and all my stupid questions. They offer chat, text, phone and email support. I prefer live chat. They even fixed things that I screwed up before I realized that I had screwed them up. They offer Cloudflare for a CDN (content delivery network) for free as well as free SSL certificates. They do charge for privacy, That is my only pet peeve with them. For what I am paying, privacy should be free as well.
The Big Two Reasons I love SiteGround
When starting out online, you are looking for reliability and affordability. Once your website begins to grow, it should be paying for itself with that growth. The cheaper web hosts were great for the startup, but they have their limits. They all have limits on bandwidth and traffic. When your website grows, your needs change Now you want reliability and most importantly, speed!
I found when moving my largest website to SiteGround, that the loud time dropped dramatically. With fewer websites per server, it means they can allocate more power and resources to your websites and along with using CloudFlare, my website visitors were not waiting as long for the site to load. People do have shorter attention spans nowadays and this is an important factor.
The second factor as your website grows is dependability. How often does your web host have issues with being up and running? Check it out. Even for an hour, you can be losing sales and authority. With SiteGround, there has never been a minute of downtime with my websites. I like knowing that it’s always there. No matter what, no matter what part of the world they are in, my website will load fast and be up for them to view. That piece of mind is worth the price of admission!
So if you have a website that is growing, take a look at them. Let me know what you think.
