This is a special post for a very specific cause. It is a limited time offer and an opportunity for just the right candidate.
I am searching for a special cowboy or cowgirl. One with prior military experience, preferably with PTSD or similar medical conditions created by serving in our great Military. The cowboy I am looking for will have deep roots/connections within the cowboy world. The world of rodeo and /or bull riding.
A cowboy that has some time on His hands. Maybe recuperating from a recent surgery or injury and is looking for something to do with his free time as he heals. Maybe even using this downtime trying to find his next adventure in his life. A new avenue to explore for a career change or maybe a more focused future that involves his love of the cowboy world and his desire to help his fellow wounded veterans.
This cowboy is someone who can easily move between the world of the wounded veteran and the world of the cowboys. Able to comprehend and maybe even share certain traits and similar experiences of combat as well as the problems trying to fit back into society. To talk about and address the changes you have had to endure and the realities of an altered life path due to your military time.
The cowboy I am looking for would have a nice, loyal following on social media. It doesn’t have to be a large following. Just an active, somewhat loyal one where there are a variety of comments whenever there is a post made about the cowboy lifestyle, people and events. Bonus points if this cowboy has shared some of his experiences as a wounded veteran with his followers. Shared some of the trials and tribulations; talked about or even promoted some of the events or organizations that he is affiliated with that involve wounder combat veterans trying to get back on the road to success.
So Where am I going?
I would like to help this special cowboy forge a new path in his life. A path he seems reluctant to take. Or maybe he’s just uncertain how to take it and make it his passion, his calling. He would be one who seems like the everyday guy who wants to help, be helped and to be seen as one people can turn to for help and assistance in this niche. Not looking for the Mother Teresa of the western lifestyle! The one who will give his all in the name of self-redemption and go broke doing it. This project would have a financial return in this endeavor. The need to pay the bills and keep the lights on is necessary. No matter how big your heart is, you gotta pay the bills and feed the family!
Heal Thy Self While Healing Others
Here’s what I am looking at: In March of this year, President Trump signed a measure aimed at creating a federal task force that will tackle how agencies can help prevent veteran suicides.
“The President’s Roadmap to Empower Veterans and End a National Tragedy of Suicide — or the PREVENTS Initiative — creates a new Cabinet-level task force, aimed at creating a road map strategy across federal agencies to prevent veterans’ suicide. The task force, led by Veterans Affairs Secretary Robert Wilkie, has up to a year to submit its strategy.”
The key to this program is working at the local and state level with various agencies and organizations to find, treat and help veterans that are at risk. Using grants to help fund these programs.
Now, if I could find just the right cowboy who has his contacts and connections on both sides of the issue (wounded veterans and the cowboy/western world) who has the time right now to make some calls, tap some connections and find the people making the decisions on who gets what and where. To offer his services to research, report, interview and update his social media feeds, his fan base and his friends and supporters about what is going on to save these men and women.
The western world has always been a big supporter of our military and many cowboys have come from that world. Using the western lifestyle as a healing mechanism. Using rodeo or at least the equestrian segment as a way to get back in touch with their emotions, balance out the frustrations and heal the mind and soul.
The Business of Healing
In partnership, I would be willing to help this cowboy offer these organizations a professional service. His professional services. To create media updates, interviews and event promotions. Since this cowboy already has the ability to comfortably talk on camera, do interviews and relate to his core audience, he would be perfect for doing videos, podcasts, and articles.
The key to all this is in the grants. To work on a per-project basis. The organizations working within this initiative would be needing someone to take that segment of the project and run with it. Since this cowboy has the connections, I am sure he can also find the people best suited for interviews and articles of importance. The groups we would be working with would be willing to write the grants and publish his works as their own while also allowing him to share the content with his audience as well. It’s a win-win for everyone
Think Mike Rowe – Returning the Favor.
This cowboy is in front of the camera, the microphone. Making the connections, making the content. I am in the background editing the videos, coaching, mentoring and marketing…
- Free Time
- Connections to wounded vets and support programs
- Internet access
- webcam to do Skype or similar programs for interviews
- Google Chrome browser with the voice to text app installed
A lot of this can be flushed out as we talk. I just wanted to get the basic idea out there and see what happens. I think this is a great opportunity for the right person to help with his own healing while helping others on the path to their recovery. At the same time, be the one who helps others understand a serious problem happening in our society (veteran suicides) and addressing that problem with education and opportunity.
Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?
